Challenges in Onsite and Offshore model

Generally for any model either it is offshore development center or onsite or onshore development center. 1. we need to have good coomunicator so that other part of the team can be able to understand the requirment clearly. 2. Team should have good understanding of their team mates 3. Always team should undergo the business knowledge training, it will be value added. 4. Onsite and offshore Connectivity 5. Application response time will be very slow 6. Application Stability 7. Documentation of understanding 8. For any formal or informal discussion about the project, need to be maintained in the MOM(Mins of Meeting). 9. Techinical Knowldge expert to be present as a part of the team 10. Commitment towards the work.

General Testing Practices

General Testing Practices Whenever possible, tests should be isolated and without system or user conflicts. Retest should always be executed and fully documented when significant errors are found. Review all scenarios and test cases with a functional expert prior to testing. Explain Findings and provide backup documentation. Define defect assignment and escalation workflow before test execution. Review the Defects with all the stake holders on regular basis helps to ensure that all the defects are on track. QA team and dev team should have Test Case review meeting before SQA which helps in synchronization and coordination of various QA activities and also minimize the defect rejection ratio. Knowledge sharing sessions helps in getting awareness on other business process areas. Maintaining a detailed KT Checklist which also covers transition pre requisites, application access, hands-on exposure followed by Exit Test.

Testing Documentation

Documentation 1.       Test Case Information should be extremely detailed and in simple language 2.       Number each Test case – As described in the Test Plan. 3.       Expected Result should be documented prior to testing for each Test Case. 4.       Documents run times for all reports and processes. 5.       Copy error exactly as they appear – screen shots are the best way to capture the error message. 6.       Include the test case number in the screen shots File name. 7.       Errors should stand out on Test plan ( use red to Highlight) 8.       Web Testing – Document URL and Environment in the Test. 9.       Be consistent with documentation throughout test plan(s) 10.   Document logistics if appropriate 11.   Document testers name on Test Plan.

Best Practices in testing

Developing Test Cases ·          Determine the Focus of the Test Before beginning. ·          Create Test Scenarios – Follow the Application functionality when creating ·          Scenarios should have multiple test cases tied to each. ·          Positive Test Cases – Acceptable Input Data  - Expected to Work ·          Negative Test Cases – Unacceptable Input Data  - Expected NOT to Work ·          Creative Brainstorming Test Cases  - Helps detect  unexpected results ·          Consider Risk Factors – Increase number of test cases for volatile areas of the systems, complex code, newly created code. ·          Number of Test Cases – Average is 2 to 3 per function ( for Low to Medium Risk Factors)

Lessons learn't in Testing

Lessons Learnt ·          Know your domain ·          Know your application ·          Learn New Technologies, if needed ·          You Can’t Guarantee a Bug Free Application ·          Follow SDLC Process, for any development work ·          Requirement review ·          Code freeze and System build ·          System Testing ·          100% Test Coverage is Not Possible ·          Numbering of Test scripts ·          Create a Test plan and Test coverage before Testing ·          Think like an End User ·          Test case review ·          No assumptions in Testing ·          Defect Tracking and reporting ·          Having a single build for the project.
